What size children's bike for what age?
Children's bikes are measured in inches, based on the wheel diameter, and not in frame size like adult bikes. This is the first thing to know, because it's what makes the choice confusing for a parent.
The correct reference is not age, it's the child's height. Two seven-year-olds can have a ten-centimeter difference, and it's the inseam that determines whether they can put their foot on the ground when stopped. We rent four sizes: 16 inches for a child from 100 to 115 cm, 20 inches from 115 to 130 cm, 24 inches from 130 to 150 cm, and 26 inches from 145 cm. The ranges overlap, which is normal. If in doubt between two sizes, take the smaller one: a child who is comfortable on a slightly small bike rides better and longer than a child who is tense on a bike that is too big, who can't put their foot down and loses confidence at the first stop. This is particularly true in Paris, where you stop every hundred meters.
Give us your child's height in centimeters when booking, and we will prepare the right bike. A final saddle adjustment will be made at the counter.
