Renting a road bike in Paris, how it works
We rent road bikes in Paris starting from 4 hours and 49 €, from our agency at 58 rue de Cléry. Helmet and lock are included, and you can bring your own pedals and cleats, which few rental companies offer. For other models, everything is on the Paris bike rental page. Rental is without maximum duration, a credit card is sufficient to book and there is no age requirement. Book in advance if you are aiming for a specific date: unlike VTCs (hybrid bikes), the fleet is not expandable. Also, allow twenty minutes for familiarization, the time to adjust the saddle height and setback: this adjustment makes the difference between a pleasant ride and back pain at the 40th kilometer. What road bike size to choose?
This is the primary hurdle for road bike rental, and no competitor handles it correctly. On a city bike, a poorly adjusted saddle is uncomfortable. On a road bike, an incorrect frame size makes the ride arduous, even painful, because the position is more aggressive and you stay in it for several hours. If you already know your frame size, either because you own a bike or have had a bike fitting, provide it when booking: it's the most reliable information. Otherwise, communicate your height in centimeters and your inseam if you have it, and we will guide you. In case of doubt between two sizes, we take the smaller one: a slightly short frame can be compensated for by adjusting the saddle and stem, but an oversized frame cannot. If you're still unsure, visit the agency before booking. Five minutes on site are better than an 80-kilometer ride on a bike that doesn't fit you.
Pedals and adjustments for the road bike, bring your own
Yes, you can mount your own pedals on the rental road bike. In fact, that's what we recommend. A cyclist accustomed to clipless pedals has their shoes, cleats adjusted to their position, and unclipping reflexes. Having them rent a bike with platform pedals deprives them of all that and puts them at risk on a long ride. Bring your pedals: you can install them yourself at the counter, or entrust us with the installation, which will then be charged. If you don't have clipless pedals, the bike will come with classic pedals: just mention it when booking so we can prepare the correct setup. Saddle adjustment is done with you before departure, and if you know your measurements – saddle height, setback, stem length – bring them, and we'll adjust the bike accordingly.
Rent a road bike for a sportive event or a triathlon
This is the most frequent use for renting a road bike in Paris. Typical cases: you come to Paris for an event and don't want to transport your bike by train or plane, your bike is being repaired two weeks before a race, or you want to test a machine before buying. Four things to anticipate. Book early: the road bike fleet gets tight on weekends and event days. Pick up the bike the day before at the latest, never on the morning of, you need at least a short ride to validate the settings. Bring your pedals and cleats. And plan for the actual duration: a 4-hour rental doesn't cover an event plus travel; a full weekend for short-term bike rental in Paris is the appropriate format, and the declining rate makes it more attractive than it seems.
What bike to rent depending on your use?
The road bike is a specialized machine. If your plan is not on-road performance, something else will suit you better.
