🌿 As you enter the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park, the Pouge pond in Saint-Auvent, classified as a protected Natura 2000 area, offers an idyllic setting for cycling. From the birdwatching observatory, you can observe many species of birds.
🏞️ Your route continues towards Rochechouart, where the majestic castle, now a departmental museum of contemporary art, overlooks the valley. The view of this historic site is impressive upon arrival.

🚴♂️ Depart from Confolens, a "Petite Cité de Caractère" filled with history and exceptional medieval heritage. Take the opportunity to explore the local sights and, if you're there in mid-August, attend the festival of art and popular traditions, a lively event with dancers and musicians from all over the world. Then, follow the Vienne River to Saint-Germain-de-Confolens and its majestic castle, offering a breathtaking view of the region. The bike route continues to Alloue, where you can visit the Maria Casarès House, the former residence of the actress now transformed into an artists' residence.
🌿 Continue your journey towards Champagne-Mouton, a small town perfect for a refueling stop before resuming your ride. Along the way, two beautiful "Petites Cités de Caractère" await: Nanteuil-en-Vallée, with its cobbled streets, abbey, and the Argentor Garden, and Verteuil-sur-Charente, where the castle and Romanesque church are must-see landmarks.

Along your route, take breaks to discover the historical treasures of the region: in Raix, the Romanesque church of Saint-Barthélemy; in Paizay-Naudouin-Embourie, the 14th-century Château de Saveilles, a beautiful blend of a fortified castle and Renaissance style; and in Chef-Boutonne, the Château de Javarzay, one of the first Renaissance castles in Poitou.

You will then arrive in Niort, passing through Avenue de Limoges, until you reach La Brèche and Port Boinot, the city's true green lungs. You are now at the gates of the Marais Poitevin!

As you cross the Gâtine Poitevine, the landscape shifts from granite to limestone. Throughout your journey, be surprised by picturesque villages, mysterious rivers, and fascinating panoramas, such as a legendary chiron, a ford, and open views formed by hedgerows. Don't miss the church of Saint-Pierre-de-Parthenay-Le-Vieux, often attributed to the fairy Mélusine. 🚴♂️ This cycling stage starts gently with a ride from Bressuire to Nueil-Les-Aubiers, following the old Bressuire/Nueil-Les-Aubiers railway line. This path offers exceptional panoramic views of the Bressuirais bocage, with breathtaking landscapes in 360°. You will pass by the old station of Voultegon and can take a break at the Voulmentin picnic area to enjoy the tranquility of nature. Then continue on the greenway to Nueil-Les-Aubiers, a typical village of the region.
🌿 Continue your route from Nueil-Les-Aubiers to Mauléon by taking a green path, typical of the bocage landscapes. In Saint-Aubin de Baubigné, take a small detour to visit the Château de La Durbelière, a place rich in history. Mauléon, a Petite Cité de Caractère, offers you a relaxing stop before heading to explore the Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS) La Corbelière, a peaceful natural site with beautiful countryside landscapes.
🏞️ The stage then continues for 31.46 km to Mortagne-sur-Sèvre. You will cross the valley of the Sèvre Nantaise, alternating between paths and small roads. Take a break in Mallièvre, another Petite Cité de Caractère, an old weaving commune. As you approach Mortagne-sur-Sèvre, enjoy the stunning views of the valley and the magnificent Barbin viaduct, a true postcard of the region.

🌊On this stage of La Vélidéale, you will traverse beautiful hilly landscapes along the Sèvre Nantaise valley, a river with a sometimes tumultuous character. Take the time to pause at the foot of the many mills that line the route, witnesses to the industrial past of the region where these mills were used to produce flour and fabrics 🏞️.
🏰Don't miss the must-see Château de Tiffauges, the largest fortress in the West, where history awaits you at every corner of the alley. Then, your route leads you to Cugand, where you can discover the small village of Gaumier, which houses the only working fulling mill in France. A true journey back in time 🔧.
