Cycling Trips, the Concrete Alternative for More Sustainable Tourism

While greenhouse gas emissions related to tourism account for nearly 9% of the global total, DolceVia invites us to reinvent travel in France with a strong ambition: to make a cycling getaway as simple and desirable as a city break.

The French start-up, founded in 2023, has just been included in the mapping of French impact start-ups, carried out by Bpifrance Le Hub, France Digitale, and Mouvement Impact France. This recognition confirms the strong potential of cycling travel in the future of tourism.

As 70% of tourism-related greenhouse gas emissions are linked to transport (with 52% from air travel), DolceVia offers a concrete alternative for traveling differently. Its goal is to remove the logistical, economic, and cultural barriers that still limit its widespread adoption.

To democratize this booming tourist practice, DolceVia offers:

  • Online booking of bikes and e-bikes, starting at €19/day
  • A unique train return option, with bike drop-off at any train station in France
  • A digital route planner, tailored to each profile
  • All-inclusive trips including accommodations, technical assistance, and weather insurance

"I created DolceVia to reconcile escape and environmental impact," explains Théodore Cohen, the company's founder. "Traveling by bike is not about giving up adventure. It's about offering a different way to experience travel, slower and freer. DolceVia's ambition is to convey this feeling of Dolce Vita with every pedal stroke."

In just 18 months of operation, DolceVia has already shown impressive momentum: over 1,500 travelers, more than 150,000 km traveled by bike, and 90 tons of CO₂ avoided.

The company has set an ambitious goal of avoiding 2,500 tons of CO₂ by 2028, riding the wave of a rapidly expanding market. Each year, over 9 million cycling trips are recorded in France, with a 46% increase in economic benefits over the past 10 years.
